Women on the rise
"We should all be feminists," from a powerful and progressive essay written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (2014) to a worldwide famous quote, used by Beyoncé in her single "Flawless," and recently seen on Maria Grazia Chiuri’s debut show for Dior.
Present-day it is all about women on the rise and what it means to be a feminist in the 21st century. Woman’s march on January 21st 2017, with over 5 Million female marchers worldwide and 1 Million in Washington has substantiated that the third wave of feminism is finally about to make the social change that it has so long been advocating for. Women today are more determined than ever to continue fighting for what their predecessors have been trying to attain since the 19th and early 20th century; gender equality.
Les Femmes s’en Mêlent
Each year, on the 8th of March, we celebrate International Women’s Day. On this singular day women are praised for their economic, political and social achievements. To accelerate the clock and make a substantial difference, we all need to stand together. On the grounds of making a difference, this year, Hedgren decided to join forces with Les Femmes s’en Mêlent (LFSM), a multi-day and multi-city yearly celebration of the female independent music scene. This year, the born as a one-night festival nearly grown into a renowned European festivity will be celebrating their 20th milestone. 20 years of celebrating female musical artisans is worthy of a beautiful collaboration. As the lyrics of the Brotherhood of Man once featured in the song "United we stand": “United we stand, divided we fall."
Proclaiming to be an authentic feminist festival, Les Femmes s’en Mêlent aspires to enhance the growing presence of female artists taking the front stage and letting their voices be heard. Consisting out of a rich and varied female music scene, this year's following inspiring international artists will be taking the mic: Blondy Brownie (BE), Austra (CA), Corine (FR), JFDR (IS), Keren Ann (FR), Laurel (UK), Lowly (DK), Pink Oculus (NL), etc.
No longer be apologetic for your femininity and be part of this must-attend European event and let your own voice be heard!
The festival will take place from the 23rd of March till the 8th of April in France, Belgium and Switzerland – 27th of March till the 31st of March in Paris.
